Getting to the "_root" of things in AS3

leave it to programers to complicate things

Here's the deal:

  • You want to access a list of global varables like the good ol "_root" or "_globals" (both are depreciated in AS3)
  • You want to be able to access the "_root" timeline from anywhere in the movie
  • You want to be able to call a function that you defined on that timeline

Here's what you need to do (and explaination follows the answer, below)

This is not an endorsement.

like i need another reason to like love google. Here is an image on their homepage that honors the most amazing Belgian painter Magritte

Who created that killer Poster of Obama?

We have all seen it. That beautiful poster of Senator Obama, peering off into the horizon with the air of hopes and dreams. Brilliantly executed, as good as the best Nationalistic Soviet propaganda posters and the WPA posters (yeah, ain't they beautiful!) But who in the world has done it? Well, it's the same artist that has made Andre the Giant a national hero, Shepard Fairey! Personally, I love it! It carries alot of nationalism without being Nationalistic. No bright, saturated colours. The palette and design appeal to those who have an aesthetic intelligence. It is those kind of people who would actually care about something so insignificant as the environment!

The Demon Haunted World

Things to remember from Carl Sagan’s “The Demon-Haunted World”*:
Baloney Detection Kit

  • How reliable is the source of the claim?
  • Have the claims been verified by an independent source?
  • Is the claimant employing the accepted rules of reason and tools of research, or have these been abandoned in favor of others that lead to the desired conclusion?
  • Is the claimant providing an explanation for the observed phenomena or merely denying the existing explanation?
  • Do the claimant's personal beliefs and biases drive the conclusions, or vice versa?

In his book, "The Demon-Haunted World", Carl Sagan provides tools for skeptical thinking. This excellent list is a strong tool to weed out the bad seeds in science.
Quoting ad verbatim:

Dream #1001*

Years ago, when my friend Jonas was looking for a job, he wanted to come to work with me at Firmenich because I was known for saying "Oh, I love my job!"; very enthusiastically. Well, after a long hiatus, I am happy to say, again, I love my job :) So, last night, I am dreaming:

prosperity

This week i finished "the Beginning of Everything". it is appropriate as I feel that my life with k is in deed that. I don't remember too much in the years before her. Like your mind erases the bad and only remembers the good. well, yeah, that is true. k was instrumental in the painting: we talked about it much... and those conversations drove creative "executive (lol) decisions. like the best partnerships, ours is fruitful beyond expectations.

Intro to Drupal: Session Notes

Peter gave a Killer introduction this past weekend: here is a link to the post summarizing it: http://groups.drupal.org/node/14919

Please note the addition by Dries below!

Access the Drupal Database

Here is a help file that I created for myself on how to access the database while writing a module. I thought that it might be useful. Later this week, I will create a post recapping Objects, Arrays and Functions: the stuff we talked about at the beginning of session 2 on Sunday at Drupalcamp, this weekend. Enjoy
